From the President - October 2008

Dear Cathedralian

The Society has just held its AGM, the School had its Speech Day and is now half way through its first term as an Academy

Below are a few more items of news for your information:

The Society held its AGM on 14th October at the School. The Head, Hugh Monro, brought members of the Society up to date with the latest developments. The transition had gone well, thanks to a lot of work, particularly by the staff and Governors.

The new Principal, Mr Neil Blundell, was at Speech Day on 23rd October and will take over when term resumes on 5th November.

The Rt.Hon.Frank Field MP, Chairman of the Cathedral Fabric Commission for England, presented the prizes and in his speech celebrated the transition to Bristol Cathedral Choir School and the enduring links it has with the Cathedral.

The Head, in his speech, echoed these sentiments saying that "...the Cathedral was part of the DNA of the School".

On the evening of Speech Day, the Cathedral choir set off for Bordeaux and the School Cricket XI began its tour of South Africa, supported financially by the Society.

A new Groundsman has been recruited to look after the playing fields at Failand and it looks increasingly likely that the Old Cathedralians Cricket Club will be able to play their matches in the second half of the season on the School playing fields.

The Society expects to send out to all members just before Christmas a copy of The Cathedralian, the reprinted 2008 Directory and an invitation to the Annual Reunion Dinner on 28th March 2009 - so please put that date in your diary.

If you have changed your address recently and have not advised the Membership Secretary, please do so as it will prevent The Cathedralian being returned with a "not known at this address" message. We do want you to be kept up to date with all that's going on. In case of change, please email petertemplar@talktalk.net

Further items of news and notices of events will be sent to you as they occur.

With best wishes
